The African American Leaders Assembly is hosted by Fund for the School District of Philadelphia board members, Robert L. Archie, partner at Duane Morris LLP and Robert W. Bogle, President and CEO of The Philadelphia Tribune. We invite you to join us to hear remarks from Dr. William R. Hite, Superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia.

As Dr. Hite states, all children deserve a good school close to where they live. It starts with ensuring more of our students are reading on or above grade level by the time they are 8 years old. Currently, less than half of K-3 students in the School District of Philadelphia are reading at or above grade level. Nearly nine out ten of our 48,000 early learners are economically disadvantaged. These children want to learn but too often they do not have the tools like the internet and books available to them in their homes. This means too few of our district students have any books – let alone the right books to help them to read.

We hope you will join us to hear about the progress the district is making in early literacy. It will take all of us to ensure our children are reading on grade level, proficient in math, and graduating ready for college and careers.

The Fund for the School District of Philadelphia is an independent 501(c)3 not for profit organization that serves as fiscal intermediary between the private sector and the School District of Philadelphia.
